Thank you for your interest in our Contract Instructional Designer opportunity.

PLEASE NOTE: You must have a portfolio to apply.

This part-time, W2 opportunity requires that you have a permanent address for tax purposes in Kentucky and able to work on an Eastern time zone schedule from (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM). You'd be a great fit if:

You believe variety is the spice of life. We work on everything from tech to soft skills. From medicine to construction to non-profit learning.

You're able to make the messy clear. You hear the gobbledygook that comes from SMEs and can translate it into simple and clear language.

You don't mind eating elephants. ID projects are long and multi-faceted and that doesn't scare you.

You can see the forest for the trees. You don't waste time focusing on minutiae and instead keep your eyes on the big picture.

You're a jack of all trades AND a master of few. You've worked with a variety of projects and tools, and you've built quite the toolkit.

You're not afraid of getting dirty. We all pitch in where needed, from designer to reviewer to emailer to paper pusher, and we're all okay with that.

You're a Zen master (or at least keep trying to achieve it). You take change and stress in stride. We work for a balance between meeting our clients' needs and staying realistic. But sometimes, pushes need to happen, and timelines get condensed. You know where your happy place is and visit it long enough to move on.

You really do enjoy being part of a team. We support one another in any way we can. We help each other become better and enjoy working together. While remote, this team communicates regularly and frequently. You will not be able to run off and be alone for long periods of time.

You know how to keep a project manager happy. You keep the PMs up-to-date so that they don't have to chase you down. You keep things moving forward or alert your PM when plans start to look shaky. We do not operate on the defensive. Our clients should never be surprised that we aren't meeting a deadline or need to push dates.

You don't just settle for meh. Perfection kills but so does mediocrity. We strive for amazing every time...whether we really hit the target or just get pretty darn close. Meh can be found anywhere. Awesome is found here.

You've got some chops. We do appreciate up and coming talent, but this role requires you to have worked with a solid set of clients, as a contractor, and have a proven portfolio of client-driven work underneath you. If you haven't built that yet, we can still use you in other ways. Just reach out for that work to help build your experience outside of this position.

Skills:

Content Creation: Draft/write clear, concise, and highly engaging curriculum, lesson briefs, storyboards, and instructional materials tailored to the target audience.\

Instructional Design: Apply evidence-based learning theories (like ADDIE, Backward Design, or Adult Learning Principles) to map out intuitive learning paths and modules.

Multimedia Integration: Design frameworks for interactive elements, such as video scripts, branching scenarios, quizzes, and visual aids to enhance retention.

Review & Refine: Audit existing content to improve its flow, tone, inclusivity, and educational impact.

Collaboration: Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to translate technical information into digestible, student-friendly content.

Design Support: Support our client project teams by reviewing drafted courses and materials as a copyeditor and quality control check, support transcript development for media elements, and support other internal projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

The Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in curriculum writing, instructional design, or educational content development. We value transitioning teachers, but for this role, you need experience outside of the classroom working with clients and other curricula as well.

The Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to write clear, engaging instructional content and design effective learning flows. We need to see sample storyboards, scripts, course outlines, etc. Not just finished e-learning products.

Tech Savvy: Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Captivate) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) is highly preferred. You will likely not design in these tools at first, but if you have experience, that's helpful to ensure what you craft includes that perspective and understanding of what "done" might look like.

Formatting Wizardry: An eye for visual hierarchy. You know how to use bolding, bullet points, and headers to prevent "walls of text" and keep learners moving forward.

Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for adopting different brand tones and styles.

Qualifications (Required):

The Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in curriculum writing, instructional design, or educational content development.
