We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Legal Counsel with 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience to join our in-house legal team. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and support across a broad range of business activities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while enabling business objectives.
The candidate should have strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, and be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team. The candidate should be commercially astute, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The role-holder is also expected to provide necessary support to the activities under Global Private Banking division in OCBC as required.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Legal Corporate Advisory, you will work closely with the various departments in the bank by:-
Providing general legal advice and support, including but not limited to:
Contract Management: working and collaborating with the various departments within the bank to draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including vendor, customer, and product documentation.
Legal Advisory: Provide timely and practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate and commercial issues.
Dispute Resolution: Manage and coordinate dispute resolution, litigation, and claims, working with external counsel where necessary.
Risk Management: Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies or solutions relating to the operations of the bank to protect the Bank's interests
Collaboration: participating in project working groups and providing advice and inputs for policies and procedures.
Legislative Developments: Monitoring and advising on developments in local laws and regulations
Training: Conduct legal training for employees as required.
Requirements
3-5 years post qualification experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house roles
Relevant experience in advising on banking matters, in particular credit matters (e.g. legal opinions, facility letters, margin calls, demands)
Good understanding of financial products and markets, as well as familiarity with regional (APAC) legal and regulatory frameworks will be an advantage
